Local Pay Per Click Marketing

Are you looking to grow your business by focusing on local advertising? Then, local pay per click advertising should be your next strategic step in helping to take your business to the next level. Targeting your pay per click ads locally gives you the ability to show you search engine listings to peoples in a specific city, state or region. This will help to reduce wasteful spending in areas that are not your target marketing. IT is important to understand your market and focus your marketing effort and dollars in the appropriate areas.

If you have a local "Atlanta restaurant" and only want to show your ads in Atlanta, then pay per click advertising on Google, Yahoo or MSN can do that for you. Why waste money showing your ads in cities outside of Atlanta, to people not interested in traveling to Atlanta for your products or services? The key is to be as specific as possible, eliminating any outside, irrelevant geographic areas.

It is also important for smaller company such as local retailers, restaurants, real estate and spa/salons to focus their marketing dollars on local targeting before branching out nationally.

Tips:

The first step in building a successful locally-targeted campaign is to do thorough research and create a highly focused keyword list (search terms). Your keyword list will include keywords that are relevant to the products and services you offer, along with a list of negative keywords. Your negative keywords are just as important and your original keyword list. The negative keywords will include words that can be used in combination with the words on your keyword list that are irrelevant to your product or service. For instance, if you are a real estate investor who only focuses on residential sale, then you may want to use negative keywords such as commercial, office space or industrial. Basically, if search term "real estate agent" is in your keyword list and a searcher searches for the phrase "commercial real estate agent," then your ad will not show up since you’ve added the word "commercial" as a negative keyword.

It is also important to stay away from one-word keywords that are too broad and can drive up your marketing cost, such as "restaurant," "spa," or "insurance" unless your have the budget for it and a long list of negative keyword in order to exclude irrelevant searches. The key is to first focus on two to three-word search terms that are highly targeted and relavant and less competitive. The more competitive a keyword is, the more it’s going to cost per click to maintain top search engine ranking. Gaining top position typically means outbidding your other competitor. However, it is not the only determing factor.

Choosing the match types is also important when compiling your list of keywords. Just remember, when you purchase keywords using broad match type, your ad can show up when searchers use synonyms, plural forms of your purchased keywords or on other relevant keywords not already in your keyword list. Therefore, if you choose to go with broad match, it is important to build out an extensive negative keyword list. Otherwise, you ads may show up in places that you never intended for them to show up.

Phrase and Exact match are by far the most targeted ways to purchase your keywords. Basically, if you purchase keywords using exact match, that means your ad will only show up if someone types in your keyword exactly the way you'vepurchased it. For phrase match, your ad will show up if someone types in your keyword exactly as it is and if there are other words before and after your search term. For instance, if you purchase the keyword "catering services," phrase match will allow your ad to show up if someone types in "italian catering services" or "need catering services." Itis still important that you compile a list of negative keywords for phrase match, which will eliminates someone searching for "catering services and job." In this instance, the word "job" can be added as a negative keyword if you do not want job searcher clicking into your ads.
